چکیده

The molecule in which a methyl viologen (MV2+) moiety is coupled through a three-carbon chain to one bipyridine in Ru(bpy)3 (bpy ) 2,2′bipyrine), [Ru(bpy)2(4-(2-(1′-methyl-4-4′-bipyridinediium-1-yl)propyl)-4′-methyl2,2′-bipyridine), abbreviated Ru(bpy)2(MV-bpy)], does not emit upon photoexcitation because of rapid quenching of the MLCT state by the MV2+. The integrated steady-state photoemission intensity is <1/1000 that of Ru(bpy)3 under the same conditions. However, quite efficient emission [∼1/5 that of Ru(bpy)3] is found when Ru(bpy)2(MV2+-bpy)5+ is electrogenerated at a Pt electrode in aqueous solution and reacts with a suitable coreactant (tri-npropylamine or oxalate), where the excited state is produced by an electron-transfer reaction. Electrogenerated chemiluminescence is also observed for this species in acetonitrile solutions upon potential cycling via annihilation of the reduced (+1) and oxidized (+5) species.

Sensitization of ultra-long-range excited-state electron transfer by energy transfer in a polymerized film.

Distance-dependent energy transfer occurs from the Metal-to-Ligand Charge Transfer (MLCT) excited state Ru(bpy)3(2+*) to an anthracene-acrylate derivative (Acr-An) incorporated into the polymer network of a semirigid poly(ethyleneglycol)dimethacrylate monolith. Following excitation, Ru(bpy)3(2+*) to Acr-An triplet energy transfer occurs followed by long-range, Acr-(3)An-Acr-An → Acr-An-Acr-(3)A...

Zeolite-mediated photochemical charge separation using a surface-entrapped ruthenium-polypyridyl complex.

Employing the strategy of quaternization of the 2,2' N atoms of the conjugated bipyridine ligand 1,4-bis[2-(4'-methyl-2,2'-bipyrid-4-yl)ethenyl]benzene (L), a polypyridyl complex of ruthenium(II) was tethered on the surface of zeolite Y. Electrochemical and spectroscopic properties of the complex suggest that, upon visible photoexcitation of the MLCT band, the electron is localized on the conju...

Directionality of Ultrafast Electron Transfer in a Hydrogen Evolving Ru−Pd-Based Photocatalyst

Directionality of electron transfer and long-lived charge separation are of key importance for efficient photocatalytic water splitting. Knowledge of the processes that follow photoexcitation is essential for the optimization of supramolecular assembly designs in order to improve the efficiency of photocatalytic hydrogen generation. Photoinduced intramolecular electron transfer processes within...

Enhanced Photocatalytic Reduction of Methyl Viologen by Self-Assembling Ruthenium(II)Poly(Pyridyl) Complexes with L-Lysine Containing Side Chains

New tris(2,2′-bipyridine)-type ruthenium(II) complexes with L-lysine-containing side chains form gels by hierarchical assembly of hydrogen bonded fibers in some organic solvents. These Ru(II) complex aggregates are more efficient photosensitizers for reduction of methyl viologen than Ru(bpy)3 in the presence of triethanolamine, a sacrificial electron donor. The increased rate of reduced viologe...
